Recognized as "Board of Distinction"

Yelm Community Schools is proud to announce that our School Board has been selected as a “Board of Distinction” by the Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA).  This is a rigorous application process that analyzed the board’s goals developed in 2017 and how the board’s efforts and decisions resulted in positive student outcomes. We submitted evidence showing our commitment to the strategic plan, to Graduate Yelm! and to improved student achievement. A panel of ten judges evaluated the evidence to determine if there was a clear connection between the board’s leadership and student success.

Yelm was categorized in the medium sized district with 1000-9000 students with 19 other districts.  At the state conference on November 22, one district will be awarded the highest recognition as Board of the Year.

“Awarded or not, for a board to go through this exercise of reviewing their decision-making and looking at how that is tied to positive outcomes in a school district is extremely valuable work,” said Tricia Lubach, WSSDA’s director of leadership development. “In my book, that’s already a win for students, so I highly commend every single board that applied to the Boards of Distinction program.”
