Message from our Principals

Welcome Back YMS Families!
The Yelm Middle School staff is excited to have you as part of our school community. As I enter my fourth year as principal at YMS, I continue to be amazed by the support our parent community provides our school. We look forward to working together again this year to make our school a great place for students to be. We can’t wait to get the school year started on September 6th.
This time last year, we were moving in to the new YMS. A year later our staff continues to be so grateful to the community for providing us an amazing facility to work with our students in. Over the summer, the demolition process of the old YMS occurred. In that location, a new turf field, along with ball fields, will be constructed this fall. These facilities will not only be a great place for our students to access, but also our community. We can’t wait for these projects to be completed soon.
The past two plus years have provided a number of challenges as schools have been impacted by the pandemic. Last year we made great strides to get closer to a place of normalcy for our students. We focused heavily on students’ social and emotional needs, school safety, while engaging them in a rigorous academic program. The growth our students made last year was significant and we will push for further growth again this year. Our staff is ready to get learning going on day one of the year. The success of each student at YMS is our number one mission.
Please join us at our orientation on August 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Our orientation is open to incoming and returning students and families. During orientation, students will receive their class schedules, pay fees (PE clothes, Art, ASB, Yearbook and lunch), and tour the building (classrooms won’t be open). Most fees can be paid online. Go to www.ycs.wednet.edu, click on online payments in the site shortcuts section and follow the instructions.
On behalf of the entire Yelm Middle School staff, welcome back. It’s going to be a great year!
Best wishes,
Steve Rood, Principal Mark Bowden, Assistant Principal
