School Performance Report

  • PURPOSE STATEMENT
The purpose of Prairie Elementary is to educate, nurture and guide children in developing their potential.

    VISION STATEMENT
Prairie Elementary, as part of Yelm Community Schools, is a safe, welcoming, student-centered, and collaborative learning environment.  In partnership with parents, students and community leaders, YCS staff are dedicated to helping all students meet performance expectations and achieve their full learning potential.

    ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Yelm Prairie Elementary, a design-winning school, opened its doors in September 1984 to approximately 450 students in Kindergarten through sixth grade.  Since that time, we have seen our grade configuration change from K-6 to K-5, K-4, then to Preschool-4, and now a Preschool - 5th grade.  Our student population as of October 2019 was 428 students.

We have 18 regular education classrooms for our K-5th grade students. In addition, we have special subject teachers in Reading, Math, Special Education, Music, Band, Art, P.E., and Media/Library.

In 2005, we opened a Yelm Community Schools developmental preschool and in 2017 the Functional Learning Center began serving students at our site.
