Transition to Kindergarten

Due to limited program capacity, the application window is closed, and we are no longer able to accept applications for the 26-27 school year.

 

Transition to Kindergarten is a free, high-quality early learning program designed to help students who will be 4 years old by August 31, 2026, develop the social and academic foundations they need before they enter kindergarten. 

Please be aware that recent changes to state funding have limited our program to only one TK classroom for the 2026-2027 school year. The program will be located at Fort Stevens Elementary. Priority enrollment will be given to qualifying students residing within the Fort Stevens attendance area. Applicants from across the district are still encouraged to apply and will be considered if space allows. 

Qualifications

  • Student is 4 by August 31 of that school year
  • Student resides in the Fort Stevens attendance area; applicants from other attendance areas will be reviewed on a space-available basis. 
  • Student is not currently enrolled in an early learning program.
  • Student demonstrates a need, based on entrance screening.
  • Student is able to attend a full day of learning following the school calendar.

Application Window

Applications for the 2026-2027 school year are now closed.

  • Eligibility: While priority is given to students within the Fort Stevens attendance area, families from other areas are encouraged to apply and will be considered if space is available and personal transportation can be provided.
  • Screening: Following the application deadline, eligible students will be scheduled for a screening appointment in June.
  • Notification: Final placement is determined by a comprehensive review of program eligibility and screening results. Priority is given based on academic and social need, qualification for free or reduced lunch, results of the entrance screening, and residency within the attendance area.
