Strategic Plan, Beliefs and Goals
-
The YCS Strategic Plan was adopted by our school board in January 2017. The board chose to keep the current mission and vision in place as it represents work completed by school and community members who developed the previous plan. The beliefs that provide the foundation for this bold plan state that we will be:
Student Centered: Inspire all students to achieve a College and Career Ready Diploma
Learning Focused: Lead a culture of high achievement for all students
Results Oriented: Grow each day as students, teachers, and leaders in our learning organization
Community Connected: Foster relationships working side-by-side with students, families and communityThe mission, vision and beliefs led the board to establish five goals that will guide our work. Our commitment is that all our work will support the goals to keep us focused, transparent and consistent year to year. The five school board goals are:- Yelm Community Schools will become an exemplary school district on all academic performance measures.
- Each student will be on a path (starting in kindergarten) to graduation, continuing education and work.
- Each student will learn in a modern classroom equipped with the tools necessary to achieve at exemplary levels.
- We will recruit and retain a committed and highly trained work force.
- We will successfully manage the current and future growth of our student population.
Please visit our Strategic Plan page. We have posted significant information about the performance of our schools and our students in the performance measures section.
About Our District
-
Yelm Community Schools is an amazing place for students to learn, grow and find success. In 2019-20 we will continue to push forward in positive ways to serve students, families and staff. Throughout our district this year you will see references to the Science of Hope. The science is not about being wishful or optimistic. It is based in research that concludes that high hope people believe four foundational things:
- The future will be better than the present
- We have the power to make it so
- There are multiple paths to our goals
- All of the paths will have obstacles
We firmly believe that schools, working together with families, will achieve great things. Student achievement results have increased each year of our 2017-2021 Strategic Plan, and we are determined to accelerate that trend. Yelm Community Schools will be exemplary across all achievement measures.Another area of positive growth in our district focused on our facilities. In the past year Tornado Alley was completed, making the entry and exit at Yelm High School much safer. Most recently, our stadium upgrade replaced the difficult to manage grass surface with synthetic turf that is easy to manage and will allow use of the field year round. A new double classroom portable was added at Lackamas Elementary, and improved safety ramps were installed at Fort Stevens, Prairie, Mill Pond and Yelm High School. Thanks to our giving community, the bond passed last February will result in a new Yelm Middle and Southworth Elementary. The first step in the process is to move the district facilities operation from the YMS campus to the warehouse at Fort Stevens. That move will start in September. Construction of the new middle school begins in March of 2020. Please access the “Construction Facts” link on our district webpage for the most current updates and pictures of all the construction and safety projects.Graduate Yelm!, our collective impact initiative to achieve 100% graduation, enters its second year. Last year 104 businesses, faith-based organizations and civic groups joined us to help support all of our students get to graduation and into the next phase of their lives. Our goal for 2019-20 is to build up to 150 network partners. We are also launching the Graduate Yelm! Individual Pledge. Individuals can sign on to extend the conversation about graduation. Go to our Graduate Yelm! website for instructions about taking the pledge.Great things are happening all throughout our district! Please take time to view our district and school websites. They are terrific sources of information. Also, please attend some of the many positive events at our schools this year. You will be pleased.See Our Schools
