ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Southworth Elementary is a K-6 school with approximately 500 students. We employ a full-time counselor and part time psychologist, occupational therapist, and speech therapist. We offer Title I Reading and Math programs as well as Special Education services in the areas of reading, math, and written language. In addition to a strong academic core in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, our students also have access to music, band (6th graders), library, physical education, and technology education.
ABOUT OUR BUILDING
Southworth Elementary School was built in 1972, with an expansion in 1976. In addition to the original buildings, we currently utilize ten portable classrooms. The building has been nicely maintained, and while it is the oldest building in the district, it remains in fine shape.
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN
We continually strive to align our curriculum to meet rigorous state standards. Our focus is to ensure that an aligned, standards-based curriculum is taught in every classroom and that our instructional practices support a high level of student engagement across all grade levels. By adhering to a continuous improvement process, we aim to provide the highest quality education possible for every student at Southworth.
Our staff is made up of 26 classroom teachers with an average of 12.3 years of experience. Over 53.6% hold at least a Master’s Degree. We also have 25 classified employees who provide additional educational support. We are also fortunate to have a strong cadre of committed parent volunteers as well as an active Booster Club that supports our school through fund-raising efforts and the sponsorship of well attended community events.
“Regular building hours for teachers shall be one-half hour before school starts to one-half hour after school ends.” (Board Policy 5231)
The regular hours for teachers at Southworth Elementary are from 7:50 am to 3:20 pm.
Our overall average attendance is 98%.
