Yelm FFA Agricultural Communications Team Third in Nation

Winners of the National FFA Agricultural Communications Career Development Event (CDE) were announced Friday at the annual awards banquet. The event was held in conjunction with the 85th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 21-25. National Merit 'Commended Students' Named

Yelm High School Principal Brian Wharton announced that Garrett Griffis and Rebekah Johnston have been named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Yelm Tornado Jacob Swilley was recognized as the 4A WIAA Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).

Sports Medicine Team Places at State Convention

The YHS Sports Medicine team made an incredible effort at the Washington Career and Technical Sports Medicine Association State Convention in Vancouver, WA, April 26-28. FFA Members Win Proficiency Awards, Qualify for State Degree

Proficiency State winners are Nick Frederickson (Ag Mechanics Repair & Maintenance), Fatima Scotto (Forage Production) and Jeremy Bagwell (Sheep Production). Awards were based on their application and strength of the supervised agriculture experience program. Also placing were Sheridan Lantz (Silver in Goat Production and Ag Processing); Ben Fredrickson (Silver in Diversified Livestock Production); John DeHan (Bronze in Diversified Agriculture Production) and Matt DeHan (Silver in Ag Mechanics and Repair). The following students qualified for the State FFA Degree which is the highest degree the state can bestow: Jenna Simonson, Tiffany Haney, Joyous Levien, Janae Costa and Sarah Moore.

FFA Volunteers Clean Up Storm Debris for Community Members

76 students lent a hand to help community members clean up storm debris from their properties on Saturday, February 11. The properties of 10 senior citizens/disabled community members were cleaned and debris removed. Firewood from the properties was donated to a widowed single parent in the community. FFA supervisors were impressed with the attendance and even more with the work ethic of the participating students.

FBLA Wins Big at Regional Conference

Yelm FBLA placed in the top 5 places in 21 individual events and five team events. A total of 22 student brought home state qualifying awards. Of those, five earned first place finishes. Students are preparing for state competition to be held in April.

Multi-Cultural Dance Festival by Southworth Students Plays to Packed House

Southworth Elementary students represented multiple cultures during their school-wide dance performance Thursday night. Called "Americans All," the evening featured folk dances and songs from different cultures but sent a message that we are "All Americans" no matter what our culture.
