Welcome to Southworth!  As principal, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Southworth Elementary for the 2014-2015 school year.  Our staff and parent/guardians agree that a well-informed, involved learning community is essential for student success.  By combining all of our efforts, we are better able to offer our students the quality and varied programs they deserve.  Thanks for being partners with us in creating a school that learns!  It is our hope that Southworth Elementary memories will be happy ones for you and your children.

Southworth Mission Statement

Through an active partnership among staff, students, parents, and community members, the mission of Southworth Elementary School is to provide a safe, enjoyable and challenging environment where all children develop the skills and enthusiasm necessary for lifelong learning.

Dear Southworth Families,

As many of you may already know, the Yelm Educational Association of Teachers has voted for A Day of Action.  This Day of Action is not against the district, but in protest of the Washington State Legislature’s failure to fully fund public  education as mandated by law.  The district will extend the student calendar by one day; this means that the last day of school is no longer June 11th (now a full day). The last day of school is now June 12th (half day) with dismissal at 11:35AM that day.  On behalf of myself and the rest of the staff I appreciate your patience and flexibility regarding this calendar change.

Volunteers are still needed for our big field day, June 9th.  Please talk with your student’s teacher if you are interested in helping support us and your student by volunteering to run a station at this year’s field day.

Charles Cook, Southworth Elementary Principal
