Welcome to Southworth!  As principal, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Southworth Elementary for the 2014-2015 school year.  Our staff and parent/guardians agree that a well-informed, involved learning community is essential for student success.  By combining all of our efforts, we are better able to offer our students the quality and varied programs they deserve.  Thanks for being partners with us in creating a school that learns!  It is our hope that Southworth Elementary memories will be happy ones for you and your children.

Southworth Mission Statement

Through an active partnership among staff, students, parents, and community members, the mission of Southworth Elementary School is to provide a safe, enjoyable and challenging environment where all children develop the skills and enthusiasm necessary for lifelong learning.

Dear Southworth Families,

Spring conferences are only weeks away.  This next week, teachers will be sending home notifications to set up your student’s conference.  Please be sure to set up a time to talk with your student’s teacher as it is important for us as the school and you as the family to work together to ensure your child’s education and future.  Also, please plan activities for your child this coming Spring Break that include reading at least 20 minutes a day.

Unfortunately with the failure of Yelm Community Schools to secure a school bond to build new schools, the district is forced to look at other alternatives to the overcrowding at Southworth Elementary.  Currently the district is working with a consulting agency to come up with a way to create new school boundaries.  This action will move some students from one school to another.  The district will be making every attempt to lower class sizes across the district.  Please be watching for notices regarding at least two public hearings on this action prior to next year.  Information and updates will be coming out from the district central office and will be posted on the district website.

Charles Cook, Southworth Elementary Principal
